2012 45th CGMS Annual Columbia Gem & Mineral Show

The 45th Annual Columbia Gem & Mineral Show will be held at the Jamil Temple (206 Jamil Rd., Columbia SC 29210, Exit 106A off I-26) on Friday November 16th (Hours from 10am to 6:00 pm), Saturday November 17th (Hours from 10am to 6pm) and Sunday November 18th (Hours 12:00 to 5:00pm). For 2012, our admission price will be ($4.00) for adults and children 12 and under are free. On Sunday, all military and their dependants will be free.

Wire wrapped Gem Stones

In addition to all this, the Columbia Gem & Mineral Society will have geodes from Mexico that will be for sale at the entrance to the Jamil Temple. We will let you select and we will cut the geode for you. They may contain quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, calcite. Geodes are geological rock formations, which occur in sedimentary and certain volcanic rocks. Geodes are essentially rock cavities where with internal crystal formations or concentric banding of materials form. Our geodes are from a volcanic origin.

We will also have a salted mine where for $1.00 a scoop, you can find crystals, fossils, rocks and minerals. You can “dig” for treasures that the Gem club provides. We can tell you where the minerals and treasures came from.

Another favorite is grab bags, which the club sells for $1.00, $5.00 and $10.00 that contain a wide variety of materials that we collect on our field trips and members provide for the Show. You can find almost anything (including small jewelry pieces) in our grab bags. Everyone finds these a treat.
